From Clusty to Yippy

Looking for a metasearcher . . . . a meta search engine? Perhaps give Yippy a whirl. Yippy, formerly known as Clusty, crawls the likes of Ask.com, The Open Directory Project, Gigablast, Bing, Yahoo!, and others. Execute a search, and Yippy will deliver tabs on the left for Clouds, Sources, and Sites. These help sort and refine hits as well as combat Information Overload. Yippy seems to take seriously the concept of faceted searching. Its tagline is actually ”Welcome to The Cloud”. Here’s an excellent explanation of what Yippy means by Clouds (i.e., groups of similar results). Yippy includes several databases for news, images, Wikipedia, shopping, and government. Much like Google, Yippy has its own labs.
