The Web is Dead?

Here’s a counterperspective from the New York Times that challenges Wired‘s recent cover story that penned the Web’s obituary.
The rise of smartphones and apps (in addition to social networking sites) has affected people’s Web use undoubtedly. In other words, search engines and browsers are often bypassed.
However, the NYT piece claims that the hype surrounding the death of the Web is inflated:
“While the Web is merely one of many applications that operate over the Internet, along with e-mail, instant messaging, peer-to-peer file-sharing services and other tools, it is the most familiar one for many people; almost anyone, anywhere with an Internet connection and a little bit of knowledge can view a Web page.“
